The American Wildlife refuge is one of the oldest and lowest cost bird of prey rehab centers in the state. We are all volunteer, and all devoted to the birds. We have a survival rate higher than most centers twice our size, and have successfully worked with more types of birds than many other rehabbers in NC.
According to the State of North Carolina, there are 24 licensed rehabbers in the state. Of those 24 licensed, 7 of them seem to be retired or not actively rehabbing. That means that only 17 people in the state are actually doing all the rehab work in all 100 counties of NC.
Is it any wonder we get between 150 and 300 birds each year?
